Bingo Halls feeling the heat
I mentioned back in June about how the smoking ban would increase online bingo and now it seems that bingo halls really are struggling. A press realease just out states that 1 in 3 less people play in their local halls now. With a further 63% now switched to online bingo. Although the report also says that some clubs have benefited from the ban the overall outcome shows a drop in visits. The down turn is so serious that even Gordon Brown, the Prime Minister, has been made to help the traditional bingo halls by lowering taxes.
My solution to this problem, albeit rather fantasy-like, is to have open-air bingo. The rave community were concerned that the public smoking ban will stop revellers dancing and enjoying a ciggie, but laws state that as long as the marquee is 50% open (ie 50% walled / 50% open) then the ban doesn’t take effect. So there we go bingo lovers encourage your local bingo to buy a marquee!
